(India): 23rd Regional Meeting of National Authorities of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention in Asia!
Major General Van Samra, Deputy Director of the Training and Professional Development Department of the Secretariat General of the National Authority for the Prohibition of Chemical, Nuclear, Biological and Radiological Weapons, was invited to attend the 23rd Regional Meeting of National Authorities of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention in New Delhi, Republic of India, which was attended by 40 participants, including: 1 representative from UNRCPD, 4 representatives from OPCW, 35 representatives from countries in Asia, and 1 representative from the National Chemical Weapons Authority of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The objectives of the meeting were to provide States Parties with an update on the activities and capacity-building of the Technical Secretariat and to discuss regional priorities and support needs. Discuss national implementation of Article VII of the Convention, in particular successes, challenges and priorities related to the adoption and implementation of national legislation.
Explore opportunities for regional and subregional cooperation to promote the implementation of the Convention through bilateral cooperation.
Discuss implementation of declarations and inspection obligations of States Parties under Article VI of the Convention.
Discuss national experiences in developing legislative and regulatory frameworks on chemical safety through the use of national implementation frameworks.
The meeting was held from 1 to 3 July 2025 in New Delhi, Republic of India.
